Nils Unthan

Biography
Nils Unthan has been a lecturer at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg since October 2024. Since autumn 2023, he has been a scientific project manager at the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR). There he is investigating the effects of structural change in the context of the coal phase-out in the lignite regions. He previously worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Geography in the Department of Applied Geography and Sustainability Research. In addition to his work at the BBSR, he is doing his doctorate at the University of Innsbruck in the Department of Geography on social innovations in rural-peripheral biosphere reserves as drivers of socio-ecological transformation processes. Prior to this, he studied urban and regional planning (B.Sc.) at the BTU and geography (MSc.) in Innsbruck.
