Conference "Small towns in crisis mode: local dynamics and resilient approaches to action?"

"Every crisis is a temporary non-normal, non-wanted, non-intended, and non-planned exceptional situation" (Steg 2020: 428).

In the context of the conference "Small Towns in Crisis Mode: Local Dynamics and Resilient Approaches?"of the HochschulCampus KleinstadtForschung (HCKF) we focus on the crises of recent times with their effects on small towns and sharpen on this way so far neglected perspectives on small town research (Gribat et al. 2022).

The conference will be held in Cottbus, Germany, Sept. 27-28, 2023, followed by a doctoral candidate colloquium on Sept. 29, 2023.

Short overview of the program:

  • 3 parallel technical sessions "Climate and energy crisis", "Participation and civil society in times of crisis", "Financial and functional endowment in times of crisis".
  • Workshop with 4 parallel working tables "Small town research - Quo vadis?", "Universities and small towns - On good cooperation?", "Small towns in crisis - What to do?", "Successful research networks - Establish and maintain?"
  • "Science Meets Practice" panel discussion.
