Second summer school of the "Trustworthy Hydrogen" Graduate College

The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) and the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) are holding another summer school of the joint Graduate College on the topic of hydrogen from 7 to 11 October 2024. The second summer school represents a central milestone in the stabilisation of the Graduate College.

While the first Summerschool. 2023 focussed on soft skills, this year's event will feature specialist presentations by researchers from other institutions on topics such as electrolysis and hydrogen safety. The doctoral students will delve deeper into the content in workshops and develop proposals for the further development of the Graduate College. The summer school will take place from 7 to 11 October 2024 at BTU's main campus in Cottbus. In addition to the doctoral students of the Graduate College, associated doctoral students from BAM and BTU will also take part.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Hübner, BTU Vice President for Research & Transfer, says:

"The summer school emphasises the importance of the cooperation between BTU and BAM in the field of hydrogen. It not only offers doctoral students the opportunity to learn from leading experts and develop their research skills in a targeted manner. Above all, it funds forward-looking cooperation between our institutions for joint collaborative research projects in the field of hydrogen research."

About the BTU-BAM Graduate College "Trustworthy Hydrogen"

The BTU-BAM Graduate College "Trustworthy Hydrogen", established by BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM ), combines the expertise and unique competences of both institutions to train the next generation of young scientists. Since the beginning of 2023, both institutions have been funding eight doctoral students who are supervised by tandems from both institutions. Four doctoral students are employed at BAM, while four others are working at BTU. At BTU, Prof. Dr Jan Ingo Flege (Applied Physics and Semiconductor Spectroscopy group), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Fabian Mauß (Thermodynamics / Thermal Process Engineering group), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Seidlitz (Polymer-based Lightweight Construction group) and interim professor Dr.-Ing. Christian Herglotz (Computer Engineering group) act as first and second supervisors. All doctoral projects are completed at BTU. Prof. Flege also acts as spokesperson for the Graduate College at BTU.

The supervision tandems form the basis for scientific exchange between the two institutions and create the conditions for joint applications to the German Research Foundation (DFG). A central component of the concept is a subject-related qualification programme. As part of this programme, the annual summer schools take place alternately at BAM and BTU.
