Prof. Gesine Grande congratulates new Germany Scholarship holders

On 14 November 2024, the Germany Scholarship holders of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) received their certificates at a ceremony in the visitor centre of the Fürst Pückler Museum Park and Castle Branitz.

For the first time, the honouring of the award-winning students and their scholarship providers took place in the ambience of the green prince. After a guided tour of the park, Dr Martina Schmaler, permanent representative of the board of the Fürst Pückler Museum Foundation, opened the ceremonial presentation of the certificates.

BTU President Prof. Gesine Grande conveyed her congratulations: "It is a great pleasure for me to congratulate our 34 particularly talented and committed students in this festive setting. With the Germany Scholarships, we are funding our young talents during their studies so that they can then embark on a successful professional career. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our donors for making this possible. Quite a few of them have been providing financial support to talented students for many years, enabling them to focus on their academic education regardless of their social background and also make a contribution to society. This commitment cannot be valued highly enough."

Prof. Peer Schmidt, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, presented the certificates together with the respective scholarship donors. Many of the scholarship holders are studying technical subjects such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Business Administration and Engineering. The very personal congratulations from Sandra Bierhals, BTU alumna in the Business Administration study programme and former scholarship holder, will certainly be remembered by the guests. Students and teachers from the Institute of Instrumental and Vocal Performance and Teaching at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg provided the musical accompaniment for the event. The festive ceremony in the historic rooms was made possible with the kind support of the Prince Pückler Museum Park and Palace Branitz Foundation (SFPM). It is based on a cooperation agreement between BTU and SFPM, which was only signed in February 2024.

About the Deutschlandstipendium

Donors and the federal government are jointly committed to the Deutschlandstipendium scholarships: Scholarship holders are supported with 300 euros per month so that they can realise their potential during their studies and continue to contribute to society with a high level of motivation. Private sponsors or companies provide 150 euros, while 150 euros are funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The Deutschlandstipendium thus represents an alliance of civil society involvement and state funding.

In addition to very good academic performances, the selection criteria include social, societal or political commitment. Special successes, awards and prizes or previous professional activity and internships also count. The Brandenburg University of Technology has been awarding Germany Scholarships every year since 2011.
