Load tests on a reinforced earth-retaining structure of Florwand-concrete blocks

The objective of the “SF-Cooperation Ltd., Bremen” is to build with its slope stones, in connection with geogrid retaining structures. Thereby, the geosynthetics are placed in the bed joints of the wall. These absorb only frictional forces. The chair “soil mechanics and foundation engineering / geotechnical engineering at the Brandenburg University of Technology, Cottbus” accomplished stress tests on a reinforced retaining wall construction, made of Florwand-bricks with a geogrid of the type “polyfelt. Rock GX 35/35 (Polyfelt Ltd., Linz)

The 4 m high retaining wall was built in the experimental plant of the Chair. It is fixed, on the back side, with 9 layers of geogrid. The applied load act as a line load. For the measurement of the wall’s deformation, three independent measuring systems were used. Secondary the relative movement of the geogrid was measured in the bed joint.

The load tests revealed new findings concerning the deformation behavior of reinforced retaining wall structures with geotextiles.
