Forum

Vietnam Architects Association

The first forum was held at the Association of Architects in Hanoi. Vietnam Architects Association is a voluntary, socio-political organization of architects across the country. The organization has its origin since 1948 with currently almost 6,000 members.

Vietnam Institute for Urban and Rural Planning

Further presentations on Floating Architecture as an adaptation to climatic and social changes were successfully conducted in the Vietnam Institute for Urban and Rural Planning (VIUP). VIUP is a State organization under Ministry of Construction. It was founded in 1956 in Hanoi.

Seminars

At the Hanoi Architecture University (HAU) and the University of Architecture in Ho Chi Minh City (UAH), seminars for students, academic staffs and lecturers were held respectively. The content of lectures were about floating architecture and floating technology as well as floating houses in Vietnam. Following the events, agreements for academic cooperation between BTU Cottbus Senftenberg and HAU as well as UAH were established successfully.

Competition

The architectural competition "Floating settlement on Mekong Delta" for students is as part of a seminar at the universities. It was organized in cooperation with the Brandenburg University of Technology, University of Architecture Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnam Association of Architects. The particular information and evaluation of the competition is described in Chapter 4.

Fieldtrip of Floating Settlements

There were two fieldtrips including one trip in the floating village in Cat Ba island, Haiphong and another one on Mekong Delta River. Cat Ba Island is one of the only populated islands in Ha Long Bay, with roughly 13,000 inhabitants living in six different communes, and 4,000 more inhabitants living on floating fishing villages on the sea. The Mekong Delta is well known by many floating villages. Through the fieldtrips, the experts gained meaningful experience and knowledge of traditional floating settlement which has a long history of existence. Moreover, the experts collected the useful databases of local boundary conditions as well as the precious lessons from traditional architecture of floating settlements in order to discuss and develop the sustainable concept of floating communities not only in Vietnam but also in other countries in the near future.

Exhibition on the VIETBUILD

Vietnam's Construction International Exhibition Organization Corp. (VIETBUILD), co-held by the Information Center under the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction, is held annually in different locations in Vietnam, and includes building materials, real estate, architecture and interior design. VIETBUILD has a good reputation among companies and is supported by sponsors such as Vietnam Federation of Civil Engineering Association, Vietnam Association of Architects, Vietnam National Real Estate Association and Vietnam Association for Building and others. The fairs were great opportunities to introduce innovative floating technologies from Germany to the market of construction in Vietnam. Moreover, the fairs also provided good chances to meet other experts, clients and investors who are interested in the potential of floating building development. That opened an optimistic path to exchange and export innovative floating technologies from Germany companies to potential market in Vietnam.
