MOTION-CB

Climate change and the loss of biodiversity are among the greatest and most urgent challenges of our time - and agricultural land use plays a central role in both crises. The newly established research group "MOTION-CB: Modelling Interactions for Sustainable Land Use Transformation - Climate Change and Biodiversity" investigates how the land use system can be transformed towards sustainability in the face of climate change. As part of the project, two doctoral students and two postdocs work in an interdisciplinary team addressing key questions in land use transformation.

Climate change is fundamentally transforming biodiversity conservation. Yet little is known about how the public perceives and supports these emerging conservation strategies. For instance, climate change increases uncertainty, and it remains unclear which types of conservation measures are backed by the public under such conditions. Funding from the Joachim Herz Foundation enables a representative survey (Discrete Choice Experiment) to explore public preferences for these strategies.
