EUNICE follow-up funding - BTU focuses on intensive research cooperation

The EUNICE university alliance, which includes Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU), has secured 14.4 million in funding to secure the consortium's activities until 2027. With three new partner universities, the alliance grows to ten universities.

EUNICE, the European University for Customised Education, has received 14.4 million euros for the second project phase as part of its resubmission for the Erasmus+ European Universities 2023 program. For the BTU, 1.4 million euros of this will be allocated. The university alliance submitted a new project application in January 2023, which was confirmed by the European Commission. After a three-year pilot phase and the expansion of the alliance to ten partner universities, this substantial funding will secure the continued activities of the EUNICE consortium until 2027.

"At EUNICE, we are convinced that together we can overcome the obstacles faced by each of our institutions. Ultimately, our success will help forge European communities better able to address current social and economic challenges, thereby creating new solutions for Europe as a whole," said Prof. Teofil Jesionowski , President of the Poznań University of Technology (PUT, Poland), which is coordinating this project.

The Higher Education Alliance aims to transform the educational experience for students and teachers at the European level. The goal is to develop personalized educational pathways, fund knowledge exchange among Staff Members, support interdisciplinary research, and implement educational approaches that address global challenges and address regional socioeconomic issues.

BTU President Prof. Gesine Grande is proud of the affiliation in the alliance and will also focus on joint research activities in the future: "As part of the European University Alliance EUNICE, Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg is committed to strategic networking with its partners. This alliance is an important component in the BTU's portfolio of internationalization activities. With the current follow-up funding, we will focus on the introduction of the jointly planned study programmes and the increased participation of students in the alliance over the next four years. Cooperation is also being intensified in the area of research, for example through the establishment of overarching research groups. I am pleased that the BTU is part of the future of Europe with scientific expertise and practical solutions."

The European University for Customised Education EUNICE was founded in 2020 as a transnational alliance of seven public universities: University of Mons (UMONS, Belgium), University of Vaasa (UVA, Finland), University of Catania (UNICT, Italy), University of Cantabria (UC, Spain), Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF, France), Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU, Germany) and Poznan University of Technology (PUT, Poland). In 2022, three new members were added to the Alliance: the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (IPV, Portugal), the University of the Peloponnese (UoP, Greece) and Karlstad University (KU, Sweden).
