BTU offers special programs for visiting students from Ukraine

As of now, the Guest Student Program at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg offers refugee students from Ukraine uncomplicated opportunities to participate in courses and sports classes, take advantage of language learning opportunities and study in the university library.

The BTU now offers a wide range of services to support prospective students and students from Ukraine who - regardless of their nationality - are unable to take up or continue their studies there due to the war. The Studierendenwerk Frankfurt (Oder) has 50 free dormitory places available for rent for the guest students.

BTU President Prof. Dr. Gesine Grande says: "I am extremely pleased that we, as a university, can help with this program in addition to the voluntary commitment of our employees and students." It is particularly important to the university to make it easier for the young people to arrive in Germany and to offer them an opportunity to establish social contacts. In addition, the students get impressions of studying at BTU and, in particular, quick access to learning without formal hurdles. "In this way, we hope to provide those affected with a little support and perspective during this indescribably difficult time - as far as that is at all possible," says Gesine Grande.

The BTU Guest Student Programoffers the following perspectives:

  • to attend courses - especially lectures,
  • to study at the BTU at a later stage and to prepare for this now,
  • to get to know new subject areas
  • participate in campus life, sports, and a wide range of events, as well as
  • further develop their language skills.

In addition to interest, guest students should have a basic knowledge of the teaching languages German or English, depending on their choice of module. Those who want to learn these languages can join accompanying language courses "German as a Foreign Language" or consolidate their German and English skills with people in the Sprechcafé or in a language tandem. The university's language center will help you choose the right course. In addition, a placement test helps.

Prospective students and students from Ukraine can also take advantage of the university sports programs at the BTU. Each semester, there are about 150 sports courses in about 70 different sports, from endurance sports to game sports and team sports to dance courses and water sports. This variety is not only a good balance to everyday life. University sports also help students find friendships and play sports together. The university libraries at the BTU campuses in Cottbus and Senftenberg offer a wide selection of specialized literature as well as modern work and study spaces in the reading rooms.
