BTU awards prizes for committed female students - "Best female STEM student at BTU 2023" prize (for Bachelor's and Master's students) and sponsorship prize of the "Frauenhilfswerk Cottbus e.V." association - submission deadline January 31, 2024.

The prizes are endowed with €500 and €1,000 respectively and are awarded to female students with good to very good academic performances and special commitment. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2024.

"Best female STEM student at BTU" award

Every year since 2016, BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg has honored particularly talented, high-performing and committed female students on a STEM* Bachelor's and Master's study programme as part of its gender equality promotion efforts. In addition to the central criteria, personal career, social and family circumstances, social commitment and special successes are taken into particular consideration.
The STEM prize is endowed with €1,000 for female Master's students and €500 for female Bachelor's students .


Eligibility requirements

This prize is open to female students of a STEM study programme at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. Female Bachelor's and Master's students from the 1st programme-related semester onwards can apply.

Criteria
  • Good to very good academic performances,
  • Voluntary commitment to the student body or to gender equality,
  • extracurricular social commitment.

Sponsorship award of the association "Frauenhilfswerk Cottbus e. V." 2023

The association "Frauen-Hilfswerk Cottbus e.V." has been a regional service organization of working women with socio-political commitment for 22 years. The association deals with questions of the legal, social and professional status of women and is committed to improving the living conditions of women and girls.

In particular, the women of the association are committed to
  • unhindered access to education and training for women and girls as well as qualifications for leadership roles,
  • economic independence and sustainable employment opportunities for women,
  • the best possible supervision and medical care for women and children.

The prize is awarded to a female student at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg who is particularly committed to the above-mentioned causes both during her studies and beyond.

The prize is endowed with €1,000.

Criteria
  • Good to very good academic performances
  • Commitment to improving the situation of women in society (as explained above)

General information on the application process for both prize competitions

Eligibility requirements

The awards are open to female BTU students.

Nomination

All employees of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg are eligible to nominate. The student should submit her application via the dean's office of her faculty. From there, the application will be forwarded by e-mail to the Equal Opportunities Office.

Selection

All submitted proposals will be reviewed by the members of the jury, which is made up of representatives of the Equal Opportunities Council, the Student Council, the Commission for Teaching, Studies, Study Reform and Continuing Education and the Executive Board of the association. The jury then decides on the awarding of the prize. The decision is expected to be made in mid-February 2024.

Award ceremony

The prizes are expected to be awarded at a public event at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.

Documents to be submitted
  • One-page letter of motivation with contact details of the student,
  • Letter of recommendation from the person proposing the student,
  • Curriculum vitae of the student in tabular form,
  • Proof of enrolment for the current semester,
  • Transcript of Records,
  • Information and proof of social, political and/or personal commitment.
