The first Summer School of the Graduate School »Trustworthy Hydrogen« by BAM and BTU received positive feedback

Supervisors and doctoral students gathered at BAM in Berlin for professional exchange through creative workshops and international networking in September.

The first summer school of the »Trustworthy Hydrogen« Graduate School, initiated jointly by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) and the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU), took place at BAM in Berlin. For one week, the PhD students of the Graduate School had the opportunity to discuss current topics and challenges in green energy generation, intelligent materials and quality assurance processes with international scientists. Workshops on how to communicate in a targeted (scientific) manner and on how to use DIN standards completed the programme.

In addition, the PhD students had the opportunity to present and discuss their current research projects. BAM PhD student Carolin Bach presented her work on efficient qualification strategies for next-generation H2 pressure vessels. BTU PhD student Rudi Tschammer discussed his research on novel materials and coatings for detecting hydrogen and hydrocarbons.

Launched in January 2023, the Trustworthy Hydrogen Graduate School aims to enable young scientists to actively contribute to developing a hydrogen economy in Germany and Europe as researchers in industry, research or the public sector. There are currently seven PhD students and 14 associated PhD students in the Graduate School. BAM and BTU have a long history of cooperation in research and education. They are leading institutions in Germany in the field of modern hydrogen technologies. BAM has combined extensive activities in this field in the competence centre H2Safety@BAM. At BTU, the production and use of green hydrogen are the focus of numerous interdisciplinary research groups.

Background

GRS supports the BTU-BAM Graduate School "Trustworthy Hydrogen" with three PhD positions, and BAM provides funding for four PhD positions.
