Opening of the Newton Flight Academy in Cottbus
Minister President Dietmar Woidke and US Ambassador Amy Gutman inaugurated the Newton Flight Academy Brandenburg in the "Stadtforum K" together with Cottbus Mayor Tobias Schick on July 1. Here, children and young people can have a realistic flying experience in workshops and get fascinated by the natural sciences and the research behind (climate-neutral) flying.
The highlight of the Newton Flight Academy are three full-motion flight simulators, which, in addition to the workshop and laboratory rooms, invite children to conduct their own research. Here, students learn how flight missions are designed and calculated. They can then fly the routes in the flight simulator. The mathematical and scientific activities are made possible in close cooperation with the BTU and DLR student laboratory. The Newton Flight Academy is primarily aimed at school classes, but will also be open to the general public with a passion for flying.
The first introduction courses will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2024. The Newton Flight Academy will open its doors to all interested citizens with an open day from 10 am to 4 pm.
The Newton Flight Academy Brandenburg is unique in the European Union. It was created in partnership with Boeing and FIRST Scandinavia and is operated by CHESCO GmbH in Cottbus. Over the course of the summer an exhibition will be integrated into the Newton Flight Academy, which presents research projects of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and projects that are part of the Lausitz Science Park.
