The publication examines the requirements for augmented reality (AR) solutions in the context of human-building interactions (HBI). Based on an applied research project aimed at developing and evaluating an AR-based campus app, the authors derive practical recommendations for action.

The study identifies three key success factors for implementing effective HBI-AR applications:

1. Spatial embedding: The need to carefully weigh up different calculation methods for the spatial embedding of digital content.

2. Software architecture: High prioritisation of modularity, adaptability and testability to ensure efficient software development.

3. Contextual requirements: Consideration of the specific building complexity and the maturity level of the prototype in strategic decisions regarding the AR solution (e.g. with regard to implementation strategies).

The aim of these measures is to increase user satisfaction and ensure the long-term viability of AR applications in building management and building use.
