Material and device innovations in microelectronics

In the field of semiconductor materials, new materials for micro- and nanoelectronics are investigated. Promising approaches in materials science for future microelectronics devices are explored. The research area covers a broad spectrum - from fundamental research in materials science to applied research in advanced devices. A variety of heterogeneous material systems are brought together in complex devices for analog, digital, neuromorphic, quantum mechanical, and optical signal and data processing. The integration of functional devices based on new materials and/or concepts is a complex challenge that requires experience in different research areas. Therefore, the department covers a broad spectrum, including basic research in materials science as well as technology-related research in the field of device integration. In addition, the department is networked with leading research institutions in cooperation with IHP - Leibniz Institute for High Performance Microelectronics in order to be able to identify promising material science approaches for future microelectronic devices at an early stage.
