Put on our glasses. Step into the future. The virtual Lausitz Science Park makes its debut on ‘STARKe Projekte in der Lausitz’!

Schwarzheide / Cottbus. What is the best way to showcase a 420-hectare innovation hub? On 8 October, the answer was revealed at the BASF Schwarzheide Cultural Centre: with VR headsets and an interactive on-site tour. The Virtual Lausitz Science Park made its debut at the ‘STARKe Projects in Lusatia’ event.

An interactive immersion: from guided tours to virtual flights

Visitors to the trade fair and event made the most of the opportunities to explore the Lausitz Science Park (LSP) site and key locations in Cottbus virtually and in 360°. The VR experience has a modular structure: guided segments lead users through various key locations in the university town and the emerging science and technology hub.

A particular highlight of the tour is the virtual flight over the entire site. From a bird’s-eye view, the true scale of the 420-hectare site – as well as the enormous potential it holds for science, business and the region – becomes immediately apparent.

Strong voices for a model region in transition

Embedded within the VR experience are compelling statements from key figures in the region, which highlight why the Lausitz Science Park is regarded as a driving force for the whole of Germany:

  • BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg with Prof. Dr Gesine Grande (president of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg): As the scientific heart of the LSP, the university makes significant contributions to structural change. It lays the foundations for cutting-edge research, promotes spin-offs and offers both established companies and start-ups the ideal environment for forward-looking innovations.
  • The City of Cottbus, represented by Doreen Mohaupt (Mayor of Cottbus): As a university city steeped in history, Cottbus is reinventing itself. Short distances, a high quality of life and flagship projects such as the new railway depot or the Medical University of Lusatia – Carl Thiem (MUL-CT) create excellent prospects for young professionals and families.
  • German Aerospace Centre (DLR) with Dr Lars Enghardt (Director of the Institute): With its Institute of Electrified Aero Engines, the DLR is already a strong local anchor. The LSP offers the ideal platform for collaboration to make the most of synergies.
  • Lusatia Economic Region (WRL) with Jana Kostbar and Andreas Schwerin: As a key driver of structural change, the WRL supports the LSP as one of Germany’s most important future hubs for high-tech and applied research.

Cottbus is evolving from a region historically shaped by lignite into a model region for climate protection, sustainable growth and innovation. For investors and businesses, this environment offers the opportunity to play an active role in shaping this transformation from the very beginning.

Presented as part of the ‘STARKe Projekte’ series

The fact that the launch took place as part of the “STARKe Projekte” series of events provided the perfect setting: The initiative regularly showcases projects that, as part of the federal STARK programme (Strengthening the Dynamics of Transformation and a New Beginning in the Mining Regions), are driving structural change in the coal-mining regions of Brandenburg and Saxony through concrete concepts and investments.

Explore it virtually for yourself

If you don’t have a VR headset to hand, you don’t have to miss out on the tour: Virtual Lusatia is accessible to all and can be experienced directly in your smartphone or desktop browser.
