Car-free university day on June 18, 2024 at BTU
This year, BTU is once again taking part in the Germany-wide Car-Free University Day on June 18, 2024 , with the aim of raising awareness of the relevance of climate-neutral, environmentally friendly and socially just mobility. This year, the focus of the day will be on exchanging views on existing and future sustainable mobility.
The "FutureRoads@BTU" ideas competition was launched under the question "How can the roads and paths of the future be designed at BTU?": all BTU students and employees (in teams or individually) can submit ideas and concepts for redesigning the roads, paths and parking spaces at the BTU sites until June 10, 2024. On June 18, the submitted ideas and prototypes will be presented on campus and the best three will be awarded prize money of €250 each.
This year's event will be accompanied by a market of opportunities in front of the interim canteen from 11:00 - 14:00. At the end of the day, the award ceremony and a panel discussion on the opportunities and challenges of sustainable mobility in rural Lusatia will take place in the Lehmbau at 2:30 p.m. We would be delighted if you would take this day as an opportunity to use alternatives to the car. However, no traffic routes on campus will be closed off on this day.
FutureRoads@BTU" competition
As part of the FutureRoads@BTU competition, ideas and concepts for the redesign of the streets, paths and parking areas of the BTU locations (main campus, Campus Sachsendorf, Campus Senftenberg, Campus North) are to be submitted, taking into account the various usage requirements (e.g. stay & social interaction, development, connection). Finished prototypes (e.g. redesign of parking spaces) or concepts (e.g. in video form, poster, collage or packaged in a poetry slam) can be presented.
To take part in the competition, an idea with a brief description must be submitted by June 10, 2024 by email to katrin.uhl(at)b-tu.de. All submissions will be exhibited on June 18, 2024 as part of the nationwide Car-Free University Day.
Market of opportunities
The "Market of Opportunities" will take place from 11:00 to 14:00 on the main campus in front of the Interim Mensa near the Fablab. There will be a pop-up self-help bicycle workshop, a drinks bar, sustainable snacks and information stands from the ADFC, the FabLab and many other groups.
Panel discussion and award ceremony
At the end of the day, from 2:30 p. m., we want to hold a practical discussion on the future planning of sustainable mobility in Cottbus and the region. With representatives from Cottbusverkehr, the Brandenburg Transport Turnaround People's Initiative and Prof. Christine Eisenmann (Chair of Infrastructure and Mobility Planning), among others, we will discuss the question "Car-free - but how?". Possibilities and challenges of sustainable mobility in rural Lusatia" will be discussed. Your questions and contributions are very welcome!
