Federal President visits the BTU in Cottbus
On Thursday, 13 June, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Cottbus and Lusatia with the foreign ambassadors working in Germany and representatives of international organizations. He was accompanied by Minister President Dr. Dietmar Woidke.
The first stop on his information and meeting trip with the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations and other representations was the BTU. The focus here was on structural change in Lusatia and climate-neutral production technologies for decentralized energy technology. The more than 130 participants in the delegation went on multilingual, guided tours through a total of eight stations, where BTU scientists explained highlights of the following structural change projects to them:
" Energy Innovation Center (EIZ)
" Center for Hybrid Electric Systems Cottbus (chesco)
" iCampus Cottbus
" SpreeTec neXt
" CreativeOpenLab (COLab)
Together with many university employees involved in the presentations and organization, BTU President Prof. Gesine Grande, Vice Presidents Prof. Michael Hübner, Prof. Peer Schmidt, Prof. Wolfram Berger and Chancellor Robert Denk welcomed the head of state and his guests.
The guests also included Lord Mayor Tobias Schick, who then accompanied the Federal President and the diplomats to Branitz Palace and Park. In the afternoon, all the guests took part in a boat trip through the UNESCO biosphere reserve in Lübbenau in the Spreewald. The day in Lusatia ended with a reception hosted by Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke at Lübbenau Castle.
Since 1996, the Federal Presidents have organized an annual information and meeting trip with the heads of mission of the diplomatic corps and international organizations to one of the 16 federal states. The aim is to present Germany and the diversity of its regions to the foreign diplomats.
