1st lecture
Sorbian/Wendish culture as part of the GDR building philosophy "Kunst am Bau"
Since the 1960s, Sorbian/Wendish culture has been an integral part of GDR building culture in Lusatia. How did the culture of the recognised national minority of the Sorbs, also known as Wends, come to be valued? Was this endeavour based on a concept? What results were achieved?
Officer: Dr Peter Schurmann
2nd lecture
Sorbian/Wendish building culture from the perspective of German architects and Architectural Conservationists in the period around 1900
The question is whether and for what reasons German architects and Architectural Conservationists spoke of "Wendish building" and "Wendish building culture". What is meant by this and what criteria were used? What effects did local building and cultural traditions have?
Officer: Dr Alfred Roggan
