Johannes Schiffer, Prof. Dr.-Ing.
I studied Engineering Cybernetics at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, and Lund University, Sweden. Then I held appointments as research associate at the Chair of Sustainable Electric Networks and Sources of Energy (2009-2011) and the Control Systems Group (2011-2015) both at TU Berlin, Germany. In 2015, I received a Ph.D. degree (Dr.-Ing.) in Electrical Engineering from TU Berlin for a thesis on Stability and Power Sharing in Microgrids. From 2015-2018, I was a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Smart Energy Systems at the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Leeds, UK. I joined Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg as Chair of Control Systems and Network Control Technology in July 2018. Since 2021, I hold a joint professorship of Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg and the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Systems (IEG), where I head the Business Area "Control, Automation and Operation Management". Since 2022, I also serve as coordinator of the Energy Innovation Center Cottbus (EIZ) and, since 2023, as coordinator of the EU MSCA Doctoral Network "Dependable Smart Energy Systems" (DENSE).
Research Interests
My main research interests are in distributed control, monitoring and analysis of complex networks with applications to emerging climate-neutral technologies, e.g., in smart energy systems and hybrid-electric propulsion systems. Please also see.
