Primary school pedagogy critical of racism in the context of democracy education

Dealing with the controversial topic of racism in primary schools is the focus of a closed meeting on the Campus Senftenberg of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU).

The event under the auspices of the primary school teaching degree study programme newly established at BTU, is aimed at teachers, student teachers and those involved in school social work in particular on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from 9:15 am to 12:30 pm. Other interested parties are also cordially invited to the large lecture theatre of the Konrad Zuse Media Center, room 11.122.

These and other questions will be discussed and examined in more detail during the conference:

  • How does racism manifest itself in elementary school, and what do lessons that are critical of racism and discrimination and the corresponding teacher actions look like?
  • What difficulties do teachers experience when addressing and naming racism?
  • What measures, interventions and networking opportunities can (prospective) teachers use to create educational spaces that promote democracy?
