BTU celebrates Europe Weeks in May

The Cottbus Europe Weeks are taking place for the third time. The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) and the city of Cottbus have planned a varied programme on the topic of Europe around Europe Day on 9 May 2024 and invite you to take part in exciting events.

To kick off the Europe Weeks, the Quizlabor invites you to "Soundcheck: Europe" on 8 May at the Bunte Bahnhof. From 11 May, the OBENKINO offers a selection of current European films by renowned directors such as Pedro Almodóvar, Agnieszka Holland and Paola Cortellesi. On 21 May, the Stadtmuseum invites you to Speak Dating, an opportunity for language learners to exchange and improve their skills. As this format is very popular, it will take place regularly on Tuesdays from 4.30 - 6 pm from June.

The "Cottbus Europe Talks" on 23 May in the Stadthaus will offer insights and discussions on the upcoming European elections with members of the European Parliament, up-and-coming politicians, practitioners and academics. For the last time in 15 years, the Polka Beats Festival will take place on 24 and 25 May in the Bunte Bahnhof. On 27 May, the 16th International Brandenburg Youth Culture Days will be held at the new "Kultur- und Begegnungszentrum 7512" in Neu Schmellwitz. "YOLO! Stay different" - is this year's motto.

The 3rd Cottbus Europe Weeks will conclude on 28 May with the Cottbus Welcome Festival KLĔB A SOL (bread and salt) with a welcome dinner, chess mile, table football championship and a big pub and party night throughout the city centre.

During the 3rd Cottbus Europe Weeks in our partner city Zielona Góra, there will also be a joint celebration by the city leadership to mark "20 years of Poland's membership of the EU", the now iconic canteen action lunch with delicious food from the countries of the BTU's EUNICE partner universities, international meetings with young people and an exhibition by Ukrainian painter Liudmyla Rybalko at the IKMZ.

Anyone who is also organising an event on the topic of Europe in May can send it to the email address europa@cottbus.de and have the opportunity to be included in the calendar of events for the 3rd Cottbus Europe Weeks, which will be published on www.cottbus.de/europa. Detailed information on these and other events can also be found here.

Background Europe Day:
Europe Day marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, in which Robert Schuman presented his idea for a new form of political co-operation in Europe that would make war between the nations of Europe unthinkable. Europe Day is celebrated by many countries of the European Union and symbolises the shared vision of a united Europe. It commemorates the endeavours to promote peace, democracy and cooperation between European nations.

Background Cottbus Europe Weeks
The initiation of the Cottbus Europe Weeks is a co-operation between the "Education & Integration" department of the city of Cottbus and the International Relations Office of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. The main focus of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg's involvement here is to raise the profile of its European university alliance "European UNIversity for Customised Education" (EUNICE), which the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg has formed together with the University of Cantabria (Spain), the University of Catania (Italy), the University of Mons (Belgium), the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (France), the University of Vaasa (Finland), the Technical University of Poznań (Poland), the University of Peloponnese (Greece), the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (Portugal) and the University of Karlstad (Sweden).
