Lecture and discussion evening: Shaping the future of Lusatia with BTU

The public lecture series "Open BTU" will focus on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 5:30 p.m., projects for structural change in Lusatia under the leadership of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU). The speakers will be Ariane Derks, Managing Director of the Lausitz Science Park, and Dr. Jakob Pohlisch from the Energy Innovation Centre.

All interested parties are invited to the Central Lecture Hall Building of the BTU at the Cottbus main campus, Audimax 1. Admission is free.

1st lecture: Lausitz Science Park - Shaping the future with energy,

Managing Director Lausitz Science Park (LSP):
Over the next few years, under the leadership of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, the Lausitz Science Park will be a science and technology location that will have a decisive impact on the city and the region with its international appeal and relevance for Germany as a business location.
The structural change processes here offer a unique opportunity to lead Lusatia into a pioneering and sustainable future together with partners and representatives from politics, business, science and society at federal, state and municipal level.

2nd lecture: Open and collaborative start-up and innovation ecosystems for structural change in Lusatia,
Dr. Jakob Pohlisch,
visionary for innovation and start-up at the Energy Innovation Center (EIZ) of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg:
The Energy Innovation Center is researching solutions and technologies for the climate-neutral energy supply of the future. Pioneering innovations are needed to realize this vision. In our globalized and interconnected world, these usually arise at the interfaces between a wide variety of players - companies, researchers, start-ups, politicians and civil society. The EIZ is strategically positioning itself at these interfaces in order to strengthen the long-term competitiveness of Lusatia by building a collaborative and open start-up and innovation ecosystem.

Another lecture and discussion evening as part of the "Open BTU" public series will begin on Wednesday, December 13, at 5:30 p.m. at this location - topic: New beginnings in Lusatian coal country - Where will the billions paid for the coal phase-out go?

About the "Open BTU"lecture series
From October 18, 2023 to January 31, 2024, the public lecture series "Open BTU" will offer interesting insights into exciting scientific fields. In the winter semester 2023/24, the focus will be on structural change in Lusatia from different perspectives. In addition to the social perspective, the historical processes of the structural break in 1990 will be discussed, the Sorbian/Wendish culture in the current transformation process will be highlighted and various future options for the region will be presented using BTU's scientific expertise.
With this educational format, which is open to all interested parties, the university's Centre for Continuing Education supports lifelong learning and funds the transfer of knowledge and ideas in the region by addressing socially relevant issues. The BTU cooperates with other universities and institutions. Each lecture will be followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion with the speakers. Anyone interested is cordially invited to take part in the wide range of events on offer.
