The PhD Programme Dependable Hardware / Software Systems is a presence-based programme aiming at German and international students with a qualified Master degree (M.Sc.) or German University Diploma in EE, CS or CE with an overall Master´s grade no less than 2.3 according to the German grading system.A Bachelor´s degree is not sufficient.

Upon successful completion of the programme, the doctoral degree "PhD in Dependable Systems" is conferred by the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.

The programme broadens students' expertise in the field of highly dependable, embedded and distributed Hardware / Software Systems and further qualifies them for independent scientific research.

The PhD programme includes both profound, independent research under the supervision of an experienced researcher and a mandatory curriculum with different tutorials in relevant areas of technology. PhD students attend courses, tutorials and seminars to deepen their knowledge of a broad spectrum of topics such as the specification, design, and test of complex electronic systems. Courses are offered in English. In the course of the programme, the focus is increasingly on individual research contributing to the state of the art in a specific research area. The results of this research are summarized in a dissertation written in English. The programme closes with an extended oral defense where students present their dissertation and discuss their results.
