Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)


This is a post-graduate programme of studies towards a "PhD in Dependable Hardware / Software Systems".

Emphasis is on guided research and writing the dissertation. In addition, the programme comprises a selection of mandatory seminars, workshops and tutorials, usually conducted in English.

Admission requires a related Master-level certificate from a recognized university, e. g. in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or telecommunications. Students whose native language is not English, need to provide an English proficiency test along with their online application. Part of the application is a also an outline of research interest. The regular duration is 3 years.

The decison of admission is taken by the Faculty Council upon recommendation by the PhD Committee.

Admissions Requirements

  • Qualified Master degree in computer science, computer engineering, electronics or related areas
  • English language proficiency demonstrated in one of the following ways: TOEFL iBT with a score of 79 points internet-based or higher; IELTS with an overall band score of 6.0 or higher
  • Outline of research interests on one page
  • Confirmation of supervision by a university professor at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg
