What is electrical engineering today?

Today, life without electrical engineering is no longer conceivable. Almost all objects in our everyday lives are electrically operated or run with the significant participation of electrical devices or controls.

Are you interested in why the conveyor belt at the supermarket checkout stops when your goods are in front or how online retailers manage to get your goods to you after 24 hours? In this case you will find the solution in the field of study Process Automation.

In the field of study Communication Technology we solve the tasks of filtering information, encoding and decoding messages.

Fields of study

Process automation

In the field of study of process automation, one generally deals with the automation of technical processes. A distinction can be made between partially, highly or fully automated and autonomous systems. Such systems are used, for example, in industry in the area of painting with the help of robots or in early warning systems on cars.

Communication technology

Digitization is gaining importance in all areas of life. Whether it's the control of digital ovens via smartphone app or the networking of industrial plants as part of Industry 4.0 - data has to be recorded, transmitted and evaluated everywhere. As a result, communication technology is increasingly becoming a cross-sectional technology in all technical disciplines.

In the course of studies, the fundamentals and functional principles as well as applications with complete communication systems are dealt with. Here, the boundaries to computer science are often fluid.

Graduates of the field of study typically work in research and development departments in industry or also in the project planning of communication systems in all areas of technology.

In the first two semesters, the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg team lays the foundations for your further studies. The theoretical basis of your studies is laid in lectures, exercises and seminars, as well as in tutorials conducted by students. In the further course, practical and interdisciplinary tasks await you in our electrical engineering program, which you will work on in small groups. This makes it easier for students to make their personal choice of fields of study, because everyone has been able to gain initial experience in the individual areas. At the end of the bachelor's program is the bachelor's thesis, which is preceded by a twelve-week internship, usually in companies of your choice.

The standard period of study for the first professional qualification as a Bachelor of Engineering is seven semesters. Subsequently, there is the possibility to achieve a higher qualification with the degree Master of Engineering over three semesters.

The application-oriented degree program is accredited by ASIIN until 2024(certificate).

Likewise, the dual study program received an accreditation certificate.
