Summary of the Project Results
The series of events and the online dossier "Classism and Cultural Education" focussed on questions about how the theoretical and practical field of cultural education is interwoven with social power and domination relations in the context of classism. The central aim of many projects and actors in cultural education is to create access. Cultural education projects are often characterised by a focus on social groups that are said to have an (allegedly) inadequate level of education and/or a lack of access to culture. Perspectives critical of classism, on the other hand, problematise target group definitions and objectives of cultural education, for example with regard to processes ofothering and implicit concepts of culture and education.
The project "Classism and Cultural Education" explored the potential offered by the (analytical) perspective of "classism critique" to research, scrutinise and possibly change the structures, goals and practices of cultural education.
