Pedagogical approaches to vulnerability Cooperation with the University of Cologne

The project of the Cologne Research Group on Vulnerability (Kölner Forschungsgruppe Vulnerabilität) aims to identify vulnerability as an important pedagogical category. The starting point is the observation that a number of important pedagogical concepts - such as those of recognition, solidarity, inclusion, pedagogical tact - are often implicitly related to vulnerability, but no systematic review or pedagogical conceptualization about it has taken place yet. Against the dominance of an anthropologically supported orientation, which tends to understand people one-sidedly in terms of their strengths, resilience, resources and competencies and conceptually focuses on empowerment and self-determination, vulnerability brings a largely hidden complex back into focus, which can be fertile in the context of educational sciences.
