International diversity at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg: DAAD scholarship holders from 22 countries enrich campus life

On 16th November 2023, the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg welcomed 28 talented DAAD scholarship holders from 22 different countries at a festive event today. These outstanding young people, who have been honoured with a DAAD scholarship thanks to their academic commitment and achievements, are studying and researching in a wide range of fields at BTU.

The scholarship holders, including students from Cameroon, Mexico and Tajikistan, are specialising in fields such as environmental and resource management, mechanical engineering, architecture and various areas of research. Thanks to their excellent performance in their home countries, they have been given the opportunity to carry out part of their studies or research in Cottbus or Senftenberg. It is particularly pleasing that scholarship holders from countries such as Afghanistan or Yemen were able to start their studies at BTU despite the complicated visa process.

Mareike Kunze, Head of the International Relation Office and Kai Franke, Head of the DAAD Capital Office, welcomed warmly the students. Ms Pacilia Abanda, a DAAD scholarship holder, reported on her experiences during her first year of study and Katja Ivanov, International Student Integration Officer at BTU, on the wide range of support services for international students. The event provided space for discussions, questions and personal conversations at a get-together afterwards.

BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg currently has around 2,850 international students, which corresponds to around 43% of the total student body. This continuously increasing number of international students reflects the ongoing demand for our attractive degree programme portfolio at BTU, bringing young talent to the region and creating an international flair at the Cottbus and Senftenberg campuses. BTU is particularly pleased about its DAAD scholarship holders, who are ambassadors at home and abroad and an important part of this growing international student body.
