EUNICE funding for international research project

Jonas Betz and his colleagues, Fenja Reinsberg from Karlstad University and Ivana Hudáková from the University of Vaasa, were successful in the EUNICE Student Research Clubs selection process with their joint application. Out of a total of four research clubs established, the EUNICE committee selected their project for financial support and subsequent implementation.

The research project focuses on the question of how resistance to change can be harnessed productively. Whilst resistance is often viewed primarily as an obstacle, Jonas and his colleagues believe that critical reactions, objections and ambivalence can contain valuable information. If these are systematically addressed, they can contribute to the joint development (co-construction) of a change initiative.

Using an experiment, the team is investigating how change can be co-constructed on the basis of productive resistance. The aim is to gain a better understanding of how resistant reactions can be translated into concrete proposals for improvement, and whether such a joint design process has a positive influence on both the change itself and the reactions of those affected.

In preparation for the research project, Jonas, Fenja and Ivana met at the University of Vaasa in Finland, amongst other places. There, the international team finalised the research project, agreed on the methodological approach and prepared the next steps for conducting the experiment. The visit also facilitated an intensive personal exchange and strengthened inter-university collaboration within the European university network EUNICE.
