The research activities of the departments of the Institute of Material Chemistry focus on inorganic materials and polymer materials of great strategic importance for the energy and resources transition. The main goal is the establishment of concepts for directed design of material properties by modifying the real structure and chemical composition as well as by functionalizing the surfaces of inorganic materials and polymer materials. In addition, strategies for materials cycles are pursued.
In basic and applied research projects, a variety of cooperation with companies and research institutes in regional and transregional context have been established. Activities in research networks such as the Fraunhofer project group "Biologisation/Biofunctionalisation of Polymer Materials" or the DFG priority program "Materials Synthesis near Room Temperature" make a special contribution.
The annual highlight of scientific life on the Senftenberg campus is our "Science Day in Lusatia".
