First Summer School of the Graduate College "Trustworthy Hydrogen" of BAM and BTU draws positive conclusions

At the beginning of September 2023, the first Summer School of the Graduate College "Trustworthy Hydrogen" initiated jointly by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) and the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) was held at BAM in Berlin.

For one week, the doctoral students of the Graduate College were able to exchange ideas with international scientists on current issues and challenges - including green energy production, intelligent materials and quality assurance procedures. Workshops on target group-oriented (scientific) communication and DIN standards rounded off the program.

The PhD students also had the opportunity to present the current status of their research projects to each other and to discuss them with each other. Among others, BAM-PhD Carolin Bach presented her work on efficient qualification strategies for next generation H2 pressure vessels and BTU-PhD Rudi Tschammer his research on novel materials and coatings for the detection of hydrogen and hydrocarbons.

TheGraduate College "Trustworthy Hydrogen", which started in January 2023, aims to enable young scientists in a three-year program to actively shape the development of a hydrogen economy in Germany and Europe as scientists in industry, research or the public sector.
The Graduate College currently comprises seven young scientists and 14 associated doctoral students. BAM and BTU, which have been cooperating in research and teaching for many years, are leading in Germany in research on modern hydrogen technologies. BAM has bundled its extensive activities in the field in the competence center H2Safety@BAM. At the BTU, numerous chairs conduct cross-disciplinary research on the production and use of green hydrogen.

Background
GRS supports the BTU-BAM Graduate School »Trustworthy Hydrogen« with three PhD positions, and BAM provides funding for four PhD positions.
