Dual study with prospects in the company

Anyone who would like to take up a dual course of study at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg in the winter semester of 2022/23 can apply now. Anyone interested can find out everything they need to know on Saturday, March 12, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at a digital information event on this form of study.

At the BTU, it is possible to study dual studies in cooperation with over 180 regional and national companies. Currently, a total of 82 dual study places are available in civil engineering, business administration, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and industrial engineering. Further offers are in preparation.

The dovetailing of theory and practice, remuneration throughout the duration of studies by the company and a virtually smooth transition into the profession are just some of the advantages of dual studies for students.

How does a dual study program work? How do I find my dual study place and the right practice partner? These and many other questions will be answered. The event offers comprehensive information on the organization, process, application modalities and cooperation partners of the dual study program. The BTU's dual study programs in engineering and business administration will be presented in digital form. There will also be an opportunity to talk to dual students and graduates.

With a dual study program, companies can recruit future academic specialists and develop them to meet their company's needs. Prof. Dr. Peer Schmidt, Vice President for Studies and Teaching at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, emphasizes: "For larger companies, the focus is often on qualifying students in company-specific topics related to the course of study. Smaller companies, in addition to the subject-related training, are given the opportunity to plan a targeted job replacement or even a company succession in the long term. The companies also provide feedback that they appreciate the early integration of dual students into the future work environment and team."

Annabel Knabe is studying industrial engineering in cooperation with Erdgas Mittelsachsen GmbH, specializing in energy management and energy logistics. "For my theory phases at university, my operational phases in the company help me a lot," she reports. Because I often find the theory easier if I've already experienced the practice beforehand."

Leon Schüler is completing his dual mechanical engineering degree at BTU and VWP Maschinenbau- und Service GmbH in Massen near Finsterwalde. "Studying is relatively easy for me because you already have some prior knowledge from your training, which is deepened or expanded in the course of study," he explains. "I find the alternation between theory and practice very good, because you can apply the knowledge gained in the company."

Background: The dual study program at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg includes two models. In the training-integrating model, vocational training is linked to studies, and dual students receive two full degrees - the vocational degree and the university's academic degree. In the practice-integrated model, practical phases are integrated into the lecture-free periods of the study program, which are coordinated jointly with the dual students, those responsible in the companies and the teachers at the university. Interested students apply directly to the companies for dual study programs in engineering and business administration at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. In addition, the university offers further dual study programs in Nursing Science and Therapy Science at the Institute of Health.
