How and where do I apply for admission as a doctoral candidate?
To apply for admission as a doctoral candidate at the faculty, you need a confirmation of supervision from a university professor who is authorised to supervise doctoral candidates.
In particular, the confirmation of supervision documents the supervisor's agreement with the doctoral topic and his or her willingness to supervise the doctoral project (see: Confirmation of Supervision).
You are responsible for finding your own supervisor. Please use the faculty websites to search for suitable chairs and to contact potential supervisors.

What application documents do I need to submit?
The admission procedure and deadlines are set by the faculty at which you wish to do your doctorate. The documents listed below serve as a guideline; you may have to submit additional documents according to the doctoral regulations of the faculty that applies to you.
- Written application for acceptance as a doctoral candidate
- Curriculum Vitae
- Certified copies of certificates and transcripts of records from prior university degrees (Bachelor/Master/Diplom etc.)
If the documents are not in German or English, a certified translation into German or English by a sworn translator must also be submitted. - Completed and signed information form of the relevant faculty

- Supervision Agreement
- Declaration as to whether a dissertation has already been submitted for review in the past and if so:
- at which university and in which faculty
- on which topic the dissertation was written and
- how the doctoral committee decided on the award of the doctorate.
- Declaration whether a doctoral degree was revoked due to an attempt at deception.

What happens next with my application?
1. German citizens and EU citizens with a German university degree
The faculty will decide on your application for admission as a doctoral candidate and inform you of the outcome. If you receive a positive decision, you may enrol as a doctoral student if you wish. In this case, the faculty will forward your documents to the Admissions and Registrar's Office for the next steps. A doctorate is also possible without official enrolment at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.

2. Non-EU citizens and EU citizens with a foreign university degree
The faculty will decide on your application for admission as a doctoral candidate and inform you of the outcome. If you receive a positive decision, you may enrol as a doctoral student if you wish. In this case, the faculty will forward your documents to the International Relations Office for the next steps. A doctorate is also possible without official enrolment at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.
