Snowflake ball - an unforgettable evening

Around 300 guests from BTU, the city and the region - students, teaching staff, other university employees and alumni as well as members of the public - enjoyed a colorful program in a festive atmosphere at Campus Senftenberg. They all accepted the invitation of the Senftenberg-based student councils to dance and celebrate together on January 13, 2024.

Great ambience in a family atmosphere
A packed dance floor, cheerful guests in festive attire, skillfully performed live music and varied sounds from the band, the wonderfully decorated canteen bathed in atmospheric light, a family atmosphere, lively conversations with good food - that was the Snowflake Ball.
Thanks to a student initiative and many highly committed contributors and supporters, the first major BTU event to be held at this location in a long time was a complete success.

"The guests and the atmosphere were great. For us, the Snowflake Ball was a hugely successful event," said a delighted Ronja Tittel from the student organization team. "We received a lot of praise and are very proud of ourselves."

After the reception with champagne and juices in the foyer, Senftenberg's mayor Andreas Pfeiffer and BTU Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer Prof. Dr. Michael Hübner took the opportunity to introduce the ball on stage with words of welcome. They were not sparing in their praise for the highly committed students who had made the event possible. Mayor Andreas Pfeiffer promised that the city would continue to support such events in the future. Prof. Michael Hübner explained: "We want to experience an unforgettable evening together that unites us all. We are not just guests, but also neighbors and friends - a community that sticks together."

Thanks to all contributors and supporters
Kassandra Seltrecht and Ronja Tittel, chairperson and deputy chairperson of the Biotechnology and Materials Chemistry Student Council, which was in charge of organizing the evening, warmly thanked the two speakers, all supporters at BTU and beyond who had contributed to the success of the event, and in particular the many students from all Senftenberg study programmes who took part. The familiar atmosphere of the ball was also reflected in the fact that they each presented a rose on stage to the representatives of their and the other participating Departmental Committees of Therapy Sciences, Electrical and Medical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

The ball got off to an atmospheric start with six student dance couples, like all the guests in evening dress, who presented a Viennese waltz after several hours of practice with the Scharfe dance school.

The evening continued with live music - performed by the duo Sax-o-flute with flute and saxophone. Numerous guests then accepted the invitation to dance classic dances such as the disco fox, tango or waltz on the dance floor, which was packed with couples until the end of the event. The evening ended in a relaxed party atmosphere, with food provided by the canteen and the student bar, until 2 am. The Senftenberg-based company Seenland Event and DJ RobinMixxx provided effective lighting and good sound.

Positive feedback from guests
Numerous students from other study programmes and other guests also shared the positive assessment from the organization team and were enthusiastic about the evening and the atmosphere. For example, Tim S. (24) from Straußberg, a Biotechnology student in his seventh semester, who said: "It was a successful evening all round, a great start to the year and great for student life."
His fellow student Lukas H. (23) from Eisenhüttenstadt, who is in his first master's semester, added: "A very good evening - good people, good music, just great. It would be nice if it were continued."
Christiane Land, Student Orientation and Recruiting Officer at BTU, was also delighted: "It's great that the students have organized the ball and that such a party is taking place in Senftenberg. A great atmosphere and hall design as well as varied music."
Prof. Dr. Manuela Rossol,Professor of Molecular Immunology at the Joint Faculty of Health Sciences, explained: "I've only been at BTU for a year and this is the first ball I've attended. It's great organized by the students, everyone has a lot of fun here. I hope it takes place again next year!"
"It's really great what the students have put together here," said Michael R, graduate of the Lausitz University of Applied Sciences. "University life is what makes BTU attractive - so it's great that this ball is now taking place in Senftenberg. I would love to come again!"

The BTU students in Senftenberg still have a lot planned for the current academic year and are, for example, holding out the prospect of a dance course for students as part of the university sports program at the Snowflake Ball.
