BTU participates in the campaign "#Zusammenland - Diversity makes us strong"

BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is taking part in the "#Zusammenland - Vielfalt macht uns stark" campaign initiated by DIE ZEIT, Handelsblatt, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Tagesspiegel, WirtschaftsWoche and Ströer.

Together with around 500 companies, universities, foundations and associations, the university is taking a stand against right-wing extremism and is committed to freedom, diversity and a welcoming culture. BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg shares the fundamental message of the campaign that "openness to the world, respect and community are values that make Germany not only a country worth living in, but also an economically strong country. That is why we stand together for an open country that courageously faces up to difficulties."

Against the backdrop of anti-democratic efforts, BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is also clearly committed to the position of the University Vice Chancellors' Conference: "Liberal democracy and the rule of law are the immovable pillars of our country and its institutions. They are also essential prerequisites for the existence of a competitive and internationally compatible German higher education system.

"Science thrives through the diverse contributions and joint efforts of staff members, researchers and students from different parts of the world. Only in a diverse and networked science can we find answers to the big questions of our time," emphasizes BTU President Prof. Dr. Gesine Grande.

By signing the Diversity Charter in 2011, BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg made a commitment to fairness and appreciation towards its students and all employees. Through respectful interaction with one another and the sustainable establishment of equal opportunities through comprehensive advice and supervision at all levels, it is committed to an appreciative working and study environment that is free of prejudice. In this way, the potential of each individual with their diverse skills, backgrounds and life situations becomes an asset for our university. At the end of 2022, BTU also adopted an "action plan against (extreme) right-wing influence" to protect university operations from the influence of anti-democratic and extreme right-wing forces.

BTU also demonstrates that it stands for peaceful and equal coexistence with a variety of campaigns. For example, together with FC Energie Cottbus, it launched the "Cottbus is colorful" initiative, which now comprises a large alliance and includes strong partners such as: FC Energie Cottbus, City Marketing Association, City of Cottbus, Cottbus State Theatre, Brandenburg State Museum, LEAG, Carl-Thiem-Klinikum, Federal Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, DGB, Hammermann Ehlers Albert Rechtsanwälte and the "Cottbuser Aufbruch" association.
