Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier got to know the Energy Innovation Center!

The Energy Innovation Center Cottbus (EIZ) is celebrating another highlight: Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier got to know the Energy Innovation Center!

On June 13, 2024, the Federal President visited the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg together with the diplomatic corps of foreign ambassadors working in Germany. They were also accompanied by Minister President Dietmar Woidke and the Mayor of Cottbus Tobias Schick. Along eight different stations, various chairs and structural change projects of the BTU presented their research on climate-friendly future technologies as a contribution to structural development.
The Energy Innovation Center was able to present itself at two stations: In the EECON | Energy Economics Lab, the Federal President and the diplomats were given an insight into VR-supported acceptance research on renewable energies. After a welcome and introduction by the EIZ project managers, Prof. Felix Muesgens and Prof. Johannes Schiffer, the interested participants tried out the mobile VR laboratory. This makes it possible to experience the expansion of wind and solar plants, hydrogen infrastructure and CCS technologies in a 360° scenario.

The second stop took the delegation to Prof. Dr. Lars Röntzsch's hydrogen research center, which is part of the Energy Storage and Conversion (ESC) Lab.The aim of the ESC Lab is to map the four levels for sector-coupled energy systems - heat, electricity, storage and mobility - in a CO₂-neutral cycle approach based on green hydrogen.

The diplomats were enthusiastic about the research work, engaged in lively discussions and reported on similar projects from their own countries.
