Ready to join the M.Sc. ERM program at BTU?

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the application process—whether you’re applying from Germany, the EU, or abroad.

Deadlines for Application for Winter Semester 2025/26

Applicants with a German higher education entrance qualification

until 31.08.2025

Applicants with a foreign higher education entrance qualification

Applicants from countries requiring a visa without a valid residence permit for Germany
until 15.05.2025

Applicants with citizenship of an EU or EEA member state
until 15.08.2025

Application

Complete application documents must be submitted via the myBTU portal (German degree holders) or the uni-assist portal (for applicants with a foreign degree).
Before applying, make sure you meet the admission requirements and prepare the following documents:

Admission Requirements:
  • English language proficiency:
    TOEFL iBT ≥ 79, IELTS ≥ 6.0, or equivalent
    (Recommended Score for Speaking and Writing: IELTS ≥ 6.0)

Please note that you can apply even if you do not have the required English language test results yet, but are registered for a test. You just have to upload your test registration document with the application.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and transcript with subject-related modules, demonstrating sufficient basic knowledge in several of the subject areas of natural sciences, environmental sciences, engineering science, or socioeconomics. The criterion for determining the specialized qualification is a sufficient number of relevant completed modules for the chosen specialization.

Environmental Engineering (e.g., environmental engineering, process and plant engineering, treatment engineering, recycling management, hydro engineering, water engineering, wastewater and irrigation engineering, bio-technologies)

Environmental Sciences (e.g., biology, ecology, soil science, climatology, agronomy, forestry, water resources management, hydrology, geology)

Environmental Economics, Planning, and Law (e.g., environmental economics, environmental law, environmental planning, agricultural economics, environmental management, environmental policy, development economics, environmental governance

If you do not have your graduation documents yet, you can apply by submitting your current transcript of records instead. If you are admitted to the program, you will then be required to submit your graduation documents upon enrollment.

  • Letter of Motivation
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate (or current transcript if graduation is still pending)

  • English language certificate (or proof of registration for a test)
  • Copy of passport/ID
  • If M.Sc. ERM is your second master's program: please also provide your first master's degree certificate and transcript of records
Admission & Enrollment

After a positive evaluation of applications, including the Uni‑assist assessments by the university, you will receive the admission electronically. Now the next step is enrollment with the following process:

  1. Online enrollment in myBTU portal
  2. Payment of the semester fees
  3. Proof of health insurance
  4. Upload the enrolment documents to the myBTU portal
