Joining and Welding Technology

Joining and Welding Technology is looking back over 20 years of history at the Brandenburg University of Technology. The comprehensive view onto technology of the process, the material and the system in the context of joining processes and the tight integration of diagnostics and simulation is what sets us apart. Recent problems in the field of Joining and Welding Technology as well as Additive Manufacturing get adressed from the foundation up to the application.

On the research side, a wide variety of aspects of joining process chains can be modelled. Our expertise ranges from the development of filler materials (filler wires, powders) through laser beam, arc and pressure welding processes – including associated process monitoring and control – to materials testing. The close integration with numerical simulation thus enables a holistic approach to engineering problems.

In teaching, the focus is on imparting all relevant aspects of Joining and Welding Technology, in particular the selection and execution of joining processes, the evaluation of materials and the design of components suitable for joining, as well as numerical simulation. The curriculum is continuously updated to reflect the latest state of the art, including developments in digitalisation and the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence and machine learning.
