BTU for Future - FÜS module (13710) for BTU students (WiSe 22/23 in english)

The transdisciplinary module BTU4Future provides an overview of current research at the BTU on climate change and climate protection. It deals theoretically and practically with the question of what a University4future can look like. The module consists of a lecture (Mondays 17:30-19:00) and a project workshop (Wednesdays 11:30-13:00).

Climate protection and sustainable development are among the key challenges facing contemporary societies. Politics, economy and civil society are equally challenged to face the causes and consequences of climate change and to deal with the political concept of sustainable development.

The module gives an overview of current research on climate change and climate protection at the BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg as well as on sustainable development in different disciplines. The heart of the module is the application-oriented project workshop. The aim of the project workshop is for the students to develop and implement their own climate protection project ideas in inter- and transdisciplinary groups. As part of the module, three public discussion events will be organized with practitioners from university and actors from the local region to talk about their experiences with local climate protection measures, conflicts and potential approaches of collaboration.

After completing the module, students have an overview of different disciplinary perspectives, concepts, and empirical results in the context of climate protection and sustainable development. They have a critical understanding of universities as actors/sites for sustainable development. Students gain transformative and practical knowledge in implementing their own climate protection and sustainability projects. They practice group and project work and gain knowledge of inter- and transdisciplinary methods and approaches in climate and sustainability research.

The module (lecture + project workshop) will be held in English.
