We are pleased to announce an upcoming guest lecture as part of the Just Energy Transition module. Dr Kalt will address the topic of Hydrogen and Energy Justice. Together we will explore the rise of a global hydrogen economy as a response to energy and climate crises, analysing who defines the pathways of hydrogen development, who benefits, and who bears the costs.

The "Making Sense of Citizen Sensing" forum invites you to reflect on the opportunities and challenges of citizen science projects in the measurement of quality of life. In a varied programme of keynote speeches, a data karaoke and working groups, we will engage in practical discussions with various stakeholders.

As part of this years "Just Energy Transition" Seminar, you are warmly invited to join us for a special session on "Energy Justice and Extractivism", where we'll explore current climate activism struggles and the broader implications of extractivist policies.

In the summer semester 2025, BTU4Future with guest lecturer Patricia Vester will focus on the topic of cultural sustainability and the critical reflection of different cultures of remembrance: a place to reflect on different perspectives on (colonial) history will be created around the Women's Place for Bililee Ajiamé Machbuba at BTU.

In Lusatia, hydrogen is currently being given a relevant role in the decarbonization of the economy and energy supply. But to what extent should Lusatia rely on hydrogen as the "new green coal"? Should hydrogen be used across the board as the "bread and butter" of the energy transition or only in individual areas as the "champagne" of the energy transition?

Hydrogen - the new coal of Lusatia? Or rather the new import oil of the energy region? The energy transition hope "hydrogen" is full of local fairy tales and global import logics. In a panel discussion, the local Lusatian perspectives (Markus Will) and the global justice aspects (Lasse Thiele) of hydrogen will be discussed.

The officers Fabian Präger and Niels Kunz will present an insight into their current research on energy infrastructure development for 100% renewable energy systems. They will focus on hydrogen infrastructure development, examining centralized and decentralized approaches.

This year, BTU will once again be taking part in the Germany-wide Car-Free University Day to draw attention to the relevance of climate-neutral, environmentally friendly and socially just mobility. This year, the Car-Free University Day will take place on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 11:00-16:00.

The Car-Free University Day 2024 is calling for an ideas competition: FutureRoads@BTU. How can the roads and paths of the future be designed at BTU? As part of the FutureRoads@BTU competition, ideas and concepts for redesigning the roads, paths and parking spaces at the BTU sites can be submitted until 10.06.2024.

Hydrogen as a savior in Lusatia? The energy region as the central narrative in structural change. Now hydrogen is to be used - as the new coal as the new oil? The lecture will take a sociological perspective on the structural change in Lusatia and the role of hydrogen in it.
