13909 Advanced Seminar Empirical Business and Economics Research
Learning Outcome
After participating in the module, students are able to conduct their own small empirical business and economics research projects, starting with the development of the research question based on scientific literature, data collection or search of secondary data as well as its transparent documentation, proper data preparation and statistical data analysis up to the interpretation and a classifying discussion of the results in relation to previous research as well as possible weaknesses of the methodology used.
Content
Based on the planning and implementation of their own project (the currently available project topics are announced on the chair's website) from the concretization of the research questions and the literature-based development of hypotheses to the planning and implementation of data collection and data analysis to the presentation and discussion of the results, students in this module deepen their knowledge and experience in empirical business and economics research. Practical problems are in the focus. Compared to similar seminars in undergraduate programs, this module involves more complex analyses and a greater focus on discussing the results in terms of connections to existing research and reflecting on methodological limitations of the work. Appropriate skills will be developed through project-specific consultations.
