The chair of Microstructural Material Design combines the teaching of modern metallic high-performance materials and the associated manufacturing and characterization methods with research on γ-TiAl and cobalt-based superalloys for high-temperature applications in aero engines, automotive engineering and power generation.

The research activities are mainly carried out at the Helmholtz Zentrum Geesthacht - in many cases in cooperation with other chairs of the Panta Rhei gGmbH of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg.
