Climate change is the most important long-term problem of this century. International politics agreed to limit anthropogenic global warming to an average temperature increase of not more than 2°C related to the beginning of industrial revolution in 1750. Besides technological solutions including those from the field of biotechnology, contributions from many other fields such as meteorology, economics, social sciences, human sciences and, of course, from non-scientist citizens are required for interdisciplinary strategies to avoid major instabilities of climate systems. In the year 1992, Bill Clinton won the U.S. presidential election with the slogan “It’s the economy, stupid!” Because of climate change, we now must have the slogan “It’s the planet, stupid!”
