Bio-mining from Lusatia: BTU develops recycling process with bacteria and CO₂

Researchers at BTU are working on a new type of recycling process for electronic waste: metals such as copper, gold and silver are recovered from old circuit boards with the help of microorganisms. So far, biomining has rarely been used on an industrial scale, but it could help to conserve resources and protect the climate.

To the exciting robot competition at BTU

The Lausitz-Spreewald regional competition of the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) will be held on Saturday, 24 January 2026, from 9 a.m. in the Central Lecture Hall Building on the Cottbus main campus of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU).

Cooperation in research and science between Brandenburg and Uttarakhand

Strengthening Indo-German cooperation: On 8 January 2026, Science Minister Dr Manja Schüle signed an agreement with Dr Ranjit Kumar Sinha, State Secretary for Technical Education of the Uttarakhand government, on future science and research cooperation between the state of Brandenburg and the Indian state of Uttarakhand.

New DFG project focusses on sustainable video streaming

Reducing the environmental impact of global video streaming services is the subject of a new project at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. The three-year project is being funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) to the tune of around 332,000 euros.
