Hemp defies drought: Sustainable harvest possible on barren soils in Brandenburg

Researchers from BTU and TU Braunschweig have shown that industrial fibre hemp can be grown successfully even under extremely dry and nutrient-poor conditions. The latest study, published in the International Journal of Environmental Research, sheds light on the potential of the hemp variety Santhica 27 for sustainable agriculture in sandy soils.

The BTU Children's University on an excursion to the Piccolo Theatre

The children's university of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) has a very special offer for the winter holidays. "Stage party for team players" is the motto on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, when the children's university will be a guest at the Piccolo children's and youth theatre on Erich Kästner Platz in Cottbus from 9:45 am to 12 noon.

In the immediate vicinity of Losmachen - Verein zur Förderung der Lausitzer Zivilgesellschaft e.V. and StudioProFitness, the offers are gladly accepted by a growing community of interested Cottbus residents.

Public lecture series focusses on the "Meltdown of democracy"

Research from Lusatia for applications in space

BTU cutting-edge research goes into weightlessness: a new space project funded by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) "Dielectrophoretically Induced Convection (DEPIK II)" is researching how heat can be transported efficiently using electric fields, even without gravity.
