New Faculty Member at the Chair 01.02.2025
We are very pleased to welcome Dr Tim Rottleb as a new member of staff at the chair. Dr Rottleb completed his PhD at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin on the topic "Building the Knowledge Economy, Transforming Cities? Transnational Education Zones in the Nexus of Urban and Economic Development Strategies in the Arab Gulf Region" and previously worked at the Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space (IRS), among others.

New publication by Prof. Dr Wolfram Berger 14.06.2024
New publication: In the paper "A landfill tax refund scheme: analysis and simulation for local governments in the UK", co-authored with Dr Yoko Nagase from Oxford Brookes University, an easy-to-implement policy proposal is made and simulated for the UK that has the potential to make a substantial contribution to waste prevention and effectively fund the circular economy (published in: Int. J. of Environment and Waste Management).

Policy Brief on structural change 12.03.2024
A new policy brief on structural change has been published in collaboration with our chair: "Labour market bottleneck? Opportunities and risks for structural change in Lusatia in Brandenburg".
The policy brief is the result of the accompanying research on structural change in Lusatia. It analyses the situation on the regional labour market, discusses possible labour market reserves and their scope and makes recommendations for action.

Something new in the east? 13.10.2023
In an article for the POTSDAMER NEUESTEN NACHRICHTEN and the TAGESSPIEGEL, Prof. Zundel and Prof. Berger look at the structural change in Lusatia and draw a first interim balance with regard to the question of whether the funding in the Coal Regions Investment Act has set the right course. The article is part of the special supplement WISSENSCHAFT IM ZENTRUM from September 2023.
Participation in disputations at the Business Science Institute, Luxembourg 14.09.2023
Prof. Berger will take part in three disputations of doctoral candidates at the Business Science Institute (BSI) in Luxembourg in September 2023 as examiner or board chairperson. The BSI trains doctoral students as part of its international, AMBA-accredited Executive DBA programme. In contrast to PhDs, DBA doctoral programmes are aimed at managers with significant professional experience.
Conference: Structural change in the lignite mining areas 14.09.2023
Together with the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research Halle (IWH) and the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR), BTU is hosting a transdisciplinary conference on structural change at BTU on 9 and 10 November 2023.
