Study Modes Flexible vs. Online

Within the World Heritage Study Programme, students can choose from two distinct study modes to accommodate diverse needs and circumstances. Prospective students may choose between the flexible On-Campus Mode and the Online Mode, based on their personal, academic, and professional requirements. 

On-Campus ModeOnline Mode
Intended For: Students who wish to study on-campus but also retain the opportunity to attend online learning content. This mode is designed for those who value direct engagement with academic staff and peers, as well as the comprehensive benefits of a campus environment. Intended For: Students who have professional or family commitments, or who, for other reasons, are unable to relocate to our campus in Cottbus, Germany. This mode is designed for those who prefer a fully remote learning environment.

  • On-Campus Engagement: Opportunities to participate in academic excursions and to benefit from direct, face-to-face interaction with lecturers and fellow students.
  • Integrated Campus Life: Access to on-site resources that support practical projects and hands-on learning experiences.
  • Semester Flexibility: The option to decide whether to study a module on campus or online.
  • Extensive Electives: A wide selection of elective modules is available to complement the core curriculum.
Key Features:
  • Flexible Study Environment: The programme is structured to allow study from any location, enabling students to manage their academic work alongside personal or professional responsibilities.
  • Asynchronous Learning: Modules are taught primarily in an asynchronous manner, allowing students to study independently and on their own schedule.
  • Personalised Learning: The opportunity to manage one’s own study schedule, fostering a balanced approach to academic and personal commitments.

  • Additional Requirement: Enrolment in a German health insurance is mandatory for the duration of the studies. 
  • Visa / Residence Permit: Students enrolled in the On-Campus Mode can apply for a student visa or residence permit for Germany.

  • Elective Module Selection: The range of elective modules is more limited compared to the On-Campus Mode.
  • Visa / Residence Permit: Students enrolled in the Online Mode cannot obtain a student visa or residence permit for Germany
