Subject-specific Requirements for Artificial Intelligence
  • The primary admissions requirement is a first qualifying degree (at least bachelor's degree) or a qualification equivalent degree in a program closely related to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • A degree is considered to be closely related to AI if the topics studied as part of the bachelors degree are the similar in depth and range to those taken in BTU's bachelors degree in Artificial Intelligence.
  • The program has a strong theoretical/mathematical component. Thus, success in our academic program requires that the bachelors degree contain a solid background in theoretical computer science, mathematics (with special focus on probability theory but also including discrete mathematics and number theory, analysis, linear algebra), machine learning, software engineering, and programming.
  • Bachelors degrees that are often, but not always, considered to be closely related include computer science, computer engineering, or mathematics with a minor in computer science.
  • The examination board of Artificial Intelligence at BTU will decide whether an applicant’s degree is sufficiently close in terms of content.
  • Applicants need a certificate of proficiency in English as described in this handout.
Where to Apply
  • International applicants have to apply via uni-assist. Uni-assist verifies applications on their credentials – it does not grant admissions. If the verification of uni-assist is successful, the application is forwarded to BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg where we evaluate the application with regards to the admission to our programme. A submission of application documents directly to the university is not possible.

  • proof of English language skills (described in the handout, we do not accept "medium of instruction certificates", only valid certificates are recognized),
    • for applicants with German entrance qualification (Abitur): Your certificate of higher education entrance qualification may also serve as sufficient proof – provided that you acquired your higher education entrance qualification in Germany or at a German school abroad and provided that your certificate of higher education entrance qualification demonstrates English language skills at least at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
