Practical Humanoid
In the Master’s seminar “PRACTICAL HUMANOID THINK TANK” (Summer Semester 2026), students explored potential roles for humanoid robots in architecture, design, and construction beyond the mere automation of human labor. Building on their own research, they first developed hypotheses and application scenarios for different professional fields within the AEC industry. These were subsequently critically examined, expanded, and challenged through interviews with experts from professional practice, research, and the construction industry. The result was a qualitative snapshot of current expectations, potentials, and challenges surrounding humanoid robotics in construction. The findings were documented not only in the form of short academic contributions but also translated into visual research formats. Diagrams, workflow analyses, robot simulations, and concept posters made the developed ideas comparable and illustrated potential transformations of existing workflows. The seminar combined theoretical research, empirical interviews, and speculative design, positioning humanoid robotics as a future tool within the architectural toolbox. This publication brings together these case studies and findings.
