NMI Technologies

We are NMI Technologies, a young research team from the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and the IHP - Leibniz-Institute for Innovations for High Performance Electronics in Frankfurt (Oder). With our innovative and novel sensor technology, we are working to play a decisive role in shaping the future of plastics recycling.
Our team is developing highly integrated, plasmonic, CMOS-compatible discrete NIR spectrometer sensors that can reliably recognise and differentiate between plastics. In contrast to conventional sensors based on InGaAs, germanium detectors integrated on silicon technology are used here and combined with a plasmonic metasurface. This integration not only enables a more compact design, but also significantly reduces manufacturing costs, which is a decisive advantage for industrial applications.
The aim of our spin-off is to transfer the sensors into marketable products. The initial focus is on use in plastics recycling, where the precise sorting of plastics plays a key role in the circular economy.
Our team has applied for EXIST research transfer funding and is supported by a strong network of partners: BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, IHP, iCampus, Start-Up Lausitz, Gründerzentrum, IHK Cottbus, Technologiezentrum Horb, Innonet Kunststoff and FiberFlow are among the most important companions.
With this alliance and a promising technology, our company NMI Technologies has the potential to make a significant contribution to more efficient recycling and thus to greater sustainability in the near future.
